FlightEye ("the App") is a flight tracking application developed by Jerome Bouchart ("we", "us", "our"). This page explains what the App does with data.
No account, no personal profile
The App has no sign-up and no login. We operate no server that stores information about you, and we do not sell or share any data with anyone other than the advertising provider described below.
What stays on your device
Your favourite flights and the flight you are currently following are stored on the device itself, so the App can restore them when it reopens. They are not sent to us.
Flight data
When you search for a flight, the callsign you type is sent to public aviation data providers in order to retrieve that aircraft's position and route. We keep no search history.
Advertising
The App is free and shows advertising supplied by Google AdMob. Google may use your device's advertising identifier and signals such as approximate location and device type to select which ads to show, and to measure them.
Whether those ads are personalised depends on what you allow:
- In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, a consent form from Google appears when you first open the App. Your answer governs what Google and its advertising partners may do with your data.
- On iOS, the system also asks whether the App may track you across other companies' apps and websites. If you decline, the advertising identifier is not used to track you.
If you do not consent, the App still works and still shows ads — they are simply not personalised.
Changing your mind
Where a consent form applies, a hand icon appears at the top right of the map. Tapping it reopens Google's form so you can review or withdraw your choices at any time. The iOS tracking permission can be changed in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
Google's own explanation of how it handles data in AdMob is at policies.google.com/privacy, and the list of its advertising partners is reachable from the consent form itself.
Location
The App does not request access to your device's location. The approximate location that advertising may rely on is derived by Google from the network connection, not from the device's location services.
Notifications
If you allow them, notifications are used to tell you about a flight you are following. They are generated for your device only.
Children
The App is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
This page is updated when the App's behaviour changes, with a new date at the top.
